Excerpt:

Sandra said her son Will was alone in the back seat of the car with Summer from the bank to the church. He continuously told Summer he loved her, but still he placed a zip tie around her neck, causing her death.

Afterward, he panicked, asking for a knife to cut it off. Sandra described the look in her son's eyes afterward. “He had the look of total fear, shock, and ‘oh my god, what have I done?’” she said.

Sandra told the group they would find Summer’s body in the septic tank behind Faith Tabernacle. She said she originally suggested they place Summer's body in the Hocking River behind the church, but her husband thought it would eventually surface and discovered.

John Durst, an agent of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation was notified and met fellow investigators and Pastor King Kelly at the crime scene.  Once he arrived at Faith Tabernacle Church, he investigated of the area. According to him, there was nothing he observed during the process of the scene that a murder had occurred there.

Durst took note of the clothing that Summer was wearing when lifted out of the septic tank, including a shirt, jacket, jeans, belt, socks, and a purse still attached to her arm because of the zip ties wrapped around her wrists.

Durst also noticed that it appeared someone had peeled out from the parking lot of the church in a hurried fashion when they left, based on the tire impressions left behind and photographed from the church. The tire tracks were located on the back of the church on the east side and ended approximately 10 to 15 feet from the septic tank in the southwest corner.

The police noticed that there was a slope on the west side of the church where the septic tank was located, yet the individuals driving the vehicle drove on the east side of the church and behind, suggesting familiarity with the location.

According to the officers, they removed several one-inch screws from the septic tank cover in order to reach the body.  She was dropped into the tank headfirst.

“It was a gruesome and heartbreaking sight,” said Durst.
